A few purrs, a smart animal and a delightful companion. All these things you get as a cat owner. Those furry little bodies can be a handful though, which is why you need this article. This article will allow both you and your cat to be happier. Read on!

Your cat needs to be groomed properly. Brush your cat’s fur often to help it be shiny and healthy. If yu do this quite often, it will help them stay clean. In addition, it helps decrease shedding, which results in less hairballs. A cat that is well-groomed is one that looks the best at home.

Take your cat in for regular vet exams. Your vet will provide your cat with the shots it needs to prevent disease. Your vet can also check the overall health of your cat. Always use the same veterinarian if possible. They’ll understand what your cat has been through.

Cats often view small spaces as a fun challenge. Collars can be a safety risk if your kitty gets stuck. A breakaway style collar will literally “break away” if pulled too tight. This could save your cat’s life!

Heated tiles are great to put under a cat bed, especially for the comfort of aging felines. Place a tile made of terra cotta or a similar material in an oven heated to 200 degrees for around 15 to 20 minutes. Put it inside a cloth and place underneath your feline’s blanket or bed. If necessary, you can change out the tile after a few hours to provide continued warmth.

Regular visits to the vet will preserve your cat’s health. They should have regular check ups annually, and more appointments should be made if they need to get important shots. If your cat has any health issues or injuries, you should try and have them seen right away.

If your cat is an outdoor cat, then you should ensure it wears a tag collar. Tags can save you a lot of trouble if your cat gets lost. At least put your phone number and pets name on the tag.

Put bitter apple on all electrical cords. If your cat still insists on chewing your cords, try to cover as many of them as possible. Loose cords can be bundled and tucked inside old paper towel rolls. Whenever you aren’t using any thin, electronic cords, you should store them away.

Microchips are an increasingly popular form of pet protection. Even a house cat may end up lost outside, no matter how careful you are. Tags and collars may be able to help you get your cat back, but cats can sometimes take these things off or they could get hung up on a tree or something. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and can hold all of your contact information. Nearly every vet and shelter owns a scanner which can read a microchip, and since they’re implanted, there isn’t a risk of the chip falling out or getting lost.

You should use the different tips you just read. You’ll be a better person for it. There is no denying that the quality of your companionship is improved greatly when your cat receives the care it needs. Use the information shared here to see what a difference it will make.
