Some dogs are born obedient, whereas others may require additional training and discipline. If your pet belongs to the second category, you’re in the right place. Use the following tips to help make your dog happy and well-behaved.

Make sure that there is a calm environment in the room where your dog is. Your pet needs play time (and you might too), but your pet needs to be calm when you step into rooms most of the time. Don’t acknowledge dogs the moment that you set foot in the house.

Be sure to keep your dog active and engaged a great deal of the time. Dogs can get bored easily. Dogs that are bored are not easy to train. A happy and well-exercised dog is an easily trained dog. A long walk or a brisk run are great ways to get rid of some of your dog’s excess energy.

Start small when you begin to work on training your dog to give your dog an easy start. This ensures that success comes quickly and your dog learns to love training sessions. You will see more results as you are training this way.

Whenever the dog jumps upon you, grab its paws and give them a soft squeeze so they know it is not okay to jump on humans. While this will not seriously hurt the animal, it is certainly unpleasant and therefore makes a powerful statement. After a while, they’ll stop jumping due to this uncomfortable feeling.

Praise your dog often when training him. Be positive, excited and provide treats. Do not reward undesirable behavior, because the dog will get mixed messages.

It’s important to know if your breed of dog will require special grooming. Some breeds require a lot more grooming than others, sometimes on a weekly basis. Grooming your dog is generally a pleasant experience for the dog, resulting in a happier, cleaner dog and the extra attention will put you in the position of noticing any health problems your dog may develop.

A good thing to remember during training is the fact that your every move will play a role in the dog’s eventual personality and disposition. This is important to know, because you might undo certain desired behaviors inadvertently by teasing your dog or engaging in horseplay. You want to really mold your pet by working towards a desired behavior.

Is your pooch eating a well-balanced diet? If your dog is not eating the right kind of diet, they might become inattentive, hyperactive or even sick. Find out what your dog’s breed needs in terms of nutrition and then meet those needs. Consult your veterinarian about any special dietary needs that your dog might require.

Teach your dog to lay down on command. This is one of the basics, and is good for emergencies. The “down” command is excellent to use when your dog is exhibiting aggressive behavior.

Do not panic if your dog has a bad attitude right now. With patience and the correct techniques, you should be able to train your dog. Utilize the tips included herein to get the best puppy training results with the least amount of trouble.
