How To Get What You Want From Your Dog

Deciding to get a dog is an important decision not to be taken lightly. Dog ownership requires real commitment and dedication. You have to make sure that your dog is trained so that it will be properly behaved and will not cause any problems. If you have adopted a dog that needs to be trained you can use the guideline that is provided in this article.

Establish feeding habits for your dog. Feed your dog at the same time everyday and giving your dog fifteen minutes to eat will help your dog remember when it is time to eat. Soon your dog will be finished with the meal before you are ready to remove the dish.

Ensure that your dog eats well. If the dog’s diet is poor, it is not good for their health. If your dog isn’t getting what it needs to stay healthy, it could really struggle to find the energy for training or may act out in other ways. Training may very well go easier when dogs are given the proper nutrients in a healthful diet.

Buy chew toys so that your puppy can deal with painful teething. You should replace the object with a chew toy as soon as this occurs so your dog understands what is okay to chew on. Chew toys are essential for puppies who are experiencing pain from teething. A great alternative is a frozen wash cloth.

When house training your dog, keep in mind that whatever you feed him must come out. In an effort to create regularity in your puppy, feed specific meals at specific times daily. Doing so allows you to gain a clearer picture of when your puppy might need to relieve himself outdoors.

If you intend to use a crate in dog training, make sure the crate is an appropriate size for your dog. Keep in mind that puppies get bigger. Find a crate big enough for your adult dog. At full size your dog should be able to move around without feeling too constricted.

When you start dog training, develop a verbal cue so that the dog knows precisely when they complete a command correctly. A word like “yes” can be an effective bridge between the time that the dog exhibits the behavior and the time that they receive the reward.

Make sure your dog is comfortable and compliant with his leash. Think of the leash as a safety requirement.

When training your dog, make it fun for the both of you. When you play with your dog, you help make a stranger bond between the two of you. In return, he becomes more receptive to being trained. While training can be fun, try having play time with your dog every day for a period of time.

Your dog does not need to respond to you saying “no”. While training your pet, you need to give them a lot of positive praise and strokes. Just simply telling your dog ‘no’ doesn’t help him or her in understanding how to properly react. Every dog and every situation is different. This means that their training must be tailored accordingly.

Even if you’ve had your pet for a while and they haven’t been trained properly, you could use the information written here to train them properly. You need to do it right now before something happens you might regret.
