There are lots of tips that can help prepare a dog to go to a show. This article will help you learn the ins and outs of training your dog to be best in show.

Timing is critical during dog training; you need to take the time training, but don’t overdo it. Start out training for just a few minutes each day and work up to half an hour or so over time. Know when your dog does not pay attention when you are training it.

The more active your dog is, the healthier it will be. Dogs become bored very easily. When dogs are bored they are difficult to train. Dogs are more inclined to obey when they are regularly taken out for exercise and happily accepted as a member of your family. Regularly take a walk or run with your dog.

A dog will obsess about one thing until you divert its attention. With enough training, your dog should be able to pay more attention to your orders.

It takes many repetitions before a dog learns a new command. It isn’t uncommon for 25-50 repetitions of this same command to be used for the dog to understand it. Keep trying, your dog will pick it up.

When you are trying to house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that you put in, will come out. If you feed your dog at the same periods of the day, he will have regular bathroom habits. This will help you figure out when the best time is to take your dog out and avoid accidents.

Be certain your dog knows that you are the leader of your pack. He needs to know that you are the authority before he will let you train him. Don’t let your dog control the direction or pace of your walks.

Let your dog have more freedom as he or she starts to behave and listen to commands more. Rewarding them by showing them you trust them more will only encourage better behavior. Be sure not to give them too much since this can counteract training efforts.

Having a happy and obedient dog can make life very enjoyable, whether you are raising a show dog or a lovable couch potato. Whether your dog is a mutt or an AKC masterpiece, everything you’ve just read will allow you develop his skills and personality more fully. While different dogs will respond better to different training methods, these should get you off to a good start.
