Dogs, like TV remote controls, they must be programmed if you want them to work properly. Though the remote has the capability to function, someone needs to tweak it to coincide with the television. Your dog can already do these things, they just need to be shown how to do them.
Stay consistent when it comes to feeding your dog. Training your dog to expect that when fed, once or twice a day, you will be removing the food bowl in 10-15 minutes, will lay down a feeding schedule that your dog will adhere to. Your dog will learn to finish eating before you take the dish away.
Make sure that your dog stays in a relaxed area. It is nice to calmly play with your dogs, but remember to stay relaxed. Do not acknowledge his presence when you enter, so the atmosphere remains controlled until you decide when his play time begins.
Make sure that you use control to reward your dog’s good training behavior. When your dog responds to a command in the right way, you should reward this behavior when he is calm. If you are overly excited, the dog will become that way too. Stay calm and expect the same from your puppy.
Dogs generally focus on one thing while ignoring everything around them, unless something interrupts that intense focus. With enough repetition, your dog will focus on other things less and less, opting to wait for signals from you.
The first rule to remember when you begin to house train your puppy is that what you feed them will eventually come out the other end. To help regulate your dog’s bowel movements, feed him 2-3 times per day. By using a feeding schedule, you will now lessen the chances of an accident.
Don’t use things like shock collars. Often times, they do not work and are over priced. Plus, shock collars are not positive reinforcement when your dog is exhibiting proper behavior. Usually if you do this your dog will respond in the wrong way.
Use a phrase on your puppy to house train him. Use the same word or phrase each time you bring him out to go to the bathroom so that he understands what you want him to do and makes a memory link between the phrase and the act.
Whenever you want your dog to complete a task, you must reward it. You want to teach your pooch that good behavior is beneficial. This is how they’ll know what to do and what not to do.
Once a person has figured out how to bring out the dogs abilities to learn and be trained, it is simply a matter of practicing those techniques. The dog will enjoy pleasing the owner as much as the owner enjoys seeing the dog responding to the training they are administering.
