LIVE CORAL FOOD THAT ACTUALLY BENEFITS YOUR REEF!!!
LIVE ZOOPLANKTON IS NATURE’S PERFECT REEF FOOD!! SERIOUS REEF TANK OWNERS ARE USUALLY FORCED TO EITHER STARVE THEIR CORALS OR TO FEED NUISANCE ALGAE. REEF SCIENCE PLANKTON IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO FEED YOUR REEF, WITHOUT COMPROMISING YOUR WATER QUALITY, AND AT THE SAME TIME ESTABLISHING A POPULATION OF COPEPODS!
THIS IS THE HIGHEST QUALITY PLANKTON AVAILABLE TO REEF TANK OWNERS. OUR ROTIFERS ARE CO-CULTURED WITH ATLANTIC WARM-WATER TISBE sp. COPEPODS THAT WILL THRIVE IN ANY REEF TANK, (UNLIKE PACIFIC COLD-WATER TIGRIOPUS PODS). This particular species of copepods also feeds on detritus (left over fish food, etc.). This allows them to breed in your tank where the concentration of phytoplankton needed to sustain other available copepod species is impossible to achieve. Also in this culture are other reef-safe and beneficial microscopic zooplankton including ocean ciliates and planktonic bacteria. REEF SCIENCE PLANKTON completes the food chain for your captive corals and other invertebrates.
WE HAVE SEEN DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT IN THE COLOR, GROWTH RATE AND GENERAL HEALTH OF OUR 200 GALLON CAPTIVE REEF WITH FEEDINGS OF OUR ZOOPLANKTON. WE ORIGINALLY ISOLATED THIS STRAIN OF COPEPODS FROM THE FLORIDA COAST AND THEIR SMALLER SIZE, WARM WATER TOLERANCE, AND RAPID BREEDING MAKE THEM IDEAL FOR CAPTIVE REEFS. THIS CULTURE IS PERFECT FOR FEEDING CORALS, MANDARINS, FISH FRY, SEEDING NEW TANKS OR SEEDING REFUGIUMS WITH COPEPODS.

Each Reef Science Plankton culture will contain at least 50,000 ROTIFERS and 500 COPEPODS (250 adults) shipped with nannochloropsis oculata phytoplankton for them to feed on during transport. Your culture will be shipped in Kordon breather bags which will allow them to thrive during shipping. These hardy zooplankton are the ideal food for saltwater reef tanks, as they are the CORRECT SIZE (1/3 the size of cyclo-peeze) for most SPS, LPS, Soft corals, Sponges, Tunicates, Gorgonians and many other invertebrates. Many corals, especially SPS corals, CAN NOT EAT food items larger than rotifers or very small copepods. Most corals do not eat phytoplankton but love live zooplankton, as this is their natural food and the movement of live prey stimulates their carnivorous feeding response. Almost all coral species feed primarily on Zooplankton.
Our zooplankton are raised on HUFA (highly unsaturated fatty acid) rich marine microalgae then enriched with additional HUFAS, marine lipids, and stabilized vitamin C to ensure optimal nutrition for corals, fish, and invertebrates. Your culture is guaranteed reef safe and pathogen free.
Many companies sell nutrient poor live rotifers or larger, dead foods that can only be used by ALGAE as a food source. Others are simply reselling lower-quality versions of our product. Also, many COPEPODbreeders sell cold water Tigriopus copepods that will not easily reproduce in your tank. These Tisbe sp. copepods are a sub-tropical species, cultured and thriving at reef tank parameters, just waiting to breed in your tank. Rotifers are also great food for the other microfauna of a reef aquarium such as copepods, amphipods, mysids, and micro-brittle stars. Feeding live zooplankton minimizes rising dissolved organic content because they live their lives suspended in the water column, not falling to the bottom of the tank and becoming algae food (nitrates, phosphates). Rotifers fed to a reef tank will survive in your tank for up to three weeks, circulating until they are eaten. The copepods will last longer and will establish a breeding population in your tank under the correct conditions. Many marine fish, shrimp, and seahorse species also will hunt and eat live rotifers and copepods.
Your zooplankton will be harvested and shipped early in the week (MONDAY AND TUESDAY SHIPPING ONLY) to ensure survival and increase nutritional value. Your order will be shipped in a “breather bag”, which allows your animals to thrive during shipping. Insulated boxes, cold or heat packs are not necessary but can be arranged for an extra charge if desired. We use USPS priority mail which is more than fast enough to ensure live arrival, although overnight shipping can be used if desired. We offer a 100% live arrival guarantee, even in cold or hot weather. Check our feedback. When the culture arrives remember that rotifers are very small and can only be seen swimming with the use of a magnifying glass and light. These Tisbe copepods are also a smaller species but can be seen swimming through the culture without magnification. A helpful care sheet with feeding and care instructions will be included with your order.
The cultures are bagged, packed specifically to promote survival. Shipping will be $7.95 for one culture, and $2.50 for each additional culture. Every three cultures requires an additional box. Please request an invoice before paying for more than 3 orders!!!. Sorry, no international shipping. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IF YOU LIVE OVERSEAS!! Bulk discounts are available. We will be happy to help you start your own culture.
Terms and Conditions:
Your culture will arrive alive and as described. Organism counts are based very accurate estimates made through microscopic examination of culture samples and are purposefully underestimated to ensure you get the correct number of copepods. Of course, the exact number cannot be counted. We have shipped thousands of these cultures all over the country with great success, though shipping accidents do happen. If there is a problem, please contact us immediately and we will make it right. Buyer may be asked to pay shipping charges for replacements.
